Tech Rescue Team Assists with Trench Rescue - Selbyville Fire District
Thursday, October 18, 2007
Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company, Sussex County Paramedic 105, and Roxana Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched for a trench rescue on Roxana Road. Sussex Technical Rescue Teams, Sussex Emergency Management, and DSP Trooper 2 were secondarily alerted. Units arrived to find a single subject within an approximately 20' deep trench, enclosed by dirt to the mid chest area. The victim was alert and speaking, and in no apparent medical distress. SCEMS 105 and EMS 88 were able to directly communicate with the victim, Chief 88 (Eckman) had incident command, and the elements of the Technical Rescue Team were able to safely and effectively remove the victim. Although ardently advised to seek medical attention, and repeatedly advised of the risks, the patient was adamant about refusing to go to the hospital for evaluation.
