Sussex Tech Students Participate in Fire Safety Initiative Inspired by information that was generated by the Sussex County Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Delaware State Fire School regarding Smoke Alarm usage students at Sussex Tech completed a Public Service assignment that resulted in confirming that approximately 150 homes had working smoke alarms. Under the direction of instructors Dennis Smith and Anthony Carmen, students from the Electronics Class at Sussex Tech received an assignment that during the weekend that contained “Change Your Clocks, Change your Batteries” each student would check the smoke alarms in their home, as well as two neighbors or relatives. Seventy six students completed the assignment. They checked for working smoke alarms and batteries and cleaned the units of any dust. If a home did not have enough smoke alarms they were directed to contact their local fire department. Pictured are 11th grade students who completed the project.
